When admitted they are given option of whether to be resusitated or not, or have their own health care proxy in place for end of life concerns. They are an ingenious part of our society. Let's not brainwash them and sell them out because they are elderly. They deserve the same health care everyone else strives for, age should not make a difference.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8322675396286681037.post-71638745437432415782010-12-30T14:08:30.881-08:002010-12-30T14:08:30.881-08:00Hi Marjorie,
I'm catching up on your columns ...Hi Marjorie,

I'm catching up on your columns and this one, plus the one on Taxes below, encapsulates the importance of strategically positioning the message and proactively driving the conversation. It's a bit strange how poorly the president does this, given his communications skills. It's also something the GOP is far better at than the Democrats.

Terms like "the conversation" and "voluntary advance care planning" have no chance against "death panels" and "Obamacare." The Democrats tend to go for a cerebral approach, while the Republicans often go with an emotional one. Unfortunately, emotion almost always trumps logic with Americans. That said, Aetna's "compassionate care" is on the right track.

Both of your columns illustrate the importance of strategically communicating political ideas in a way to get Americans excited about them.David Jacobsonnoreply@blogger.com
