On Saturday, I'll be sitting on the Homestead porch in the persona of 30th President Calvin Coolidge.
Since July 4, 1985 I've presented a living history / solo performance titled - "More Than Two Words." The president will respond to visitors questions but will request that you not quote him. He is always glad to return to Vermont - it is a state he loves.
1924 was the only Vermont Summer White House. In 1925 the Coolidge's were in Swampscott, Massachusetts. 1926 found them in the Adirondack region of New York. In 1927 the president summered in South Dakota. That was the first Summer White House west of the Mississippi. "Silent Cal" dedicated work about to begin on Rushmore Mountain - the last time a president traveled on horseback to deliver an address. In 1928 the SWH was in Superior, Wisconsin.Jim Cookehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15751622155418531199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8322675396286681037.post-22412540497875241542010-08-04T20:26:20.956-07:002010-08-04T20:26:20.956-07:00I have been to Plymouth, VT many times, although I...I have been to Plymouth, VT many times, although I have never been to the Coolidge Homestead. I will make a point of going next time I am in Central Vermont.
Your thoughts on politics and politicians really hit home with me, and I sometimes wonder how I get myself all caught up in the ugliness of it all amidst my hopes for transparency and the possibility of a better representation with new and/or improved leadership.
It was a pleasure having you participate in our political process at last night's Senatorial Debate in Newton. I feel indebted to the professionalism and stature you brought the program! Thank you!Janet Josehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00533346217667550587noreply@blogger.com
